Project farm Nyhavegård (Thurø, 2022 – )
Nyhavegård is a historical half-timbered farm located on a small island in the Southern Funen archipelago close to the harbour city Svendborg. Built in 1777, the farm has a nearly 250 years long history of diverse uses and tenants. My partner and I overtook the farm in 2022 together with our children in search for a life more aligned with the rhythm of nature.
We envision Nyhavegård as a project farm where rural and urban culture, DIY/DIT-making, small-scale ecological farming, restorative pedagogy, and research meet in order to learn about and care for the more-than-human world together with local and translocal communities. A wild apple tree plantation, a small forest, 6.6 ha of land, the four-lane farmhouse, an old stable and barn provide the infrastructure for diverse projects to emerge, such as, for example, keeping a growing flock of various chicken breeds, transforming the apple plantation into a pedagogical meadow orchard, and ecologically restoring the old buildings.
Our mission is to contribute to the experiencing of a more biodiverse, communal, and culturally-active countryside in order to make visible the importance of small farms for biodiversity, sustainable food production, the preservation and advancement of knowledge and cultural life.
